Before the Fiction Collection assignment, I knew that one could search via the catalog to see if a book was in the LMC and see a lot of the book’s information, but I didn’t know there were ebooks or audiobooks at all in there. I didn’t really know that the database Novelist Plus existed at all, either, to be honest. Since doing this assignment, I now know that I can create private collections full of resources from the LMC, other school-related websites and databases, and pages all over the internet and that I can use advanced searches to find what I need to add. I know that there are tons of ebooks and audiobooks in the catalog as well as physical books. I know that Novelist Plus has a lot of resources and book information of all kinds and it’s a really amazing resource. I learned how to resize an image and about all of the digital resources DSA and the LMC have. I’ve learned how to get free non-copyrighted images. I will be able to utilize all these resources as well as effectively use google to help the students with whatever they need when finding books, articles, websites, or whatever else they may need.

Before the Nonfiction Collection assignment, I knew that NCWiseOwl had a few databases inside of it that would be useful in some circumstances, but I never really used the resources very much. I didn’t even know what the databases SIRS, Academic Video Online, or eLibrary were before the assignment. I knew what the CRAAP test was, what it stood for, and how to use it effectively. Since doing the assignment, I now know that NCWiseOwl has a lot more databases for searching for information that can all be useful for finding articles and resources. I know that SIRS, Academic Video Online, and eLibrary are powerful article, book, and video resources for nonfiction titles. I now know that in the CRAAP test, the “authority” part of it is probably the most important part because it is the source of all of the information. I have honed my keyword searching skills and practiced navigating complicated database websites. These skills will help me help students in the LMC because I would always be navigating through databases to find students’ resources, so I would need to know how to do that well. Keyword searches would help me be able to find the exact books or resources students need.
